Edward S. Smith traveled in Europe with his parents from July to November 1888. They were undoubtedly Methodists (he records attending Methodist services). The Smiths may have been from Connecticut (the diary was purchased outside Hartford). From the description of Journal of a foreign tour, 1888. (Unknown).
